Wet dreams
Wet dream which is also known as nocturnal emission or an orgasm during sleep is an involuntary ejaculation of semen that occurs during sleep. Nocturnal means "night" while emission means "discharge." so it's beginning to make some sense now, isn't it?

It is a common phenomenon experienced by adolescents males (teenage boys). Male children generally experience nocturnal emission or wet dream when they reach the age of puberty, but some do not experience it until later in life. The wet dreams or nocturnal emissions tends to occur frequently in the teen years when testosterone levels are at their highest (peak).

Between the ages of 10 and 14, males children begin the process of puberty. During this process of sexual development and maturation, they start to produce sperm and subsequently gain the ability to ejaculate. It is at this time that most males start to experience nocturnal emissions, sometimes even before they learn about masturbation.

So, You might just wake up one morning with sticky underwear or sheets and realize that you ejaculated in your sleep. This is called a wet dream or nocturnal emission, and it's totally normal — especially during puberty. Most guys wake up from a wet dream, but others may sleep through it.

The discharge of semen or nocturnal emission during sleep could occur as a result of sexual or erotic dreams, or while sleeping, the male's genitals may rub against the bed (mattress) or sheets, or he may unknowingly stimulate his genitals by himself. When this happens, the male may become so aroused that he has or experience a nocturnal emission or wet dream. Some males find out or realize that they are more prone to wet dreams during times of less frequent intercourse because they are not ejaculating as frequently from masturbation or coition with a partner as they should. However, in reality wet dreams might probably just be a sign of puberty. Wet dreams are common, and as you get older they happen less often and eventually go away altogether.

It is important to understand that wet dreams or nocturnal emissions are a normal part of growing up. Adult men equally may have wet dreams as well but in a reduced frequency. For women, the experience is less “wet” but still intense. The erotic dreams may lead to vaginal lubrication and orgasms (often called nocturnal orgasms). They can happen during adolescence and throughout adulthood.

Therefore, Both males and females can experience nocturnal orgasms. This is particularly prominent During rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, both males and females experience greater blood flow to their genitals, which is a typically occurrence during arousal. REM sleep is associated with dreaming, so your brain is more active. An active brain requires more oxygen and as a result, blood flow all over the body increases.  In males, this results in an erection and sometimes orgasm and ejaculation. Females experience the swelling of the clitoris and labia minora, vaginal lubrication and some experience an orgasm which may or may not be accompanied by a sexual dream. Females experience less frequent nocturnal orgasms than males, and rarely do they experience emission.
